In 2008, William's largest client defaulted, £125,000 outstanding. The financial crisis arrived the same year. The practice he had spent 14 years building held on for a while; by March 2012 it was gone. What followed was the rebuild. Munich, working with BMW, then client side in social housing, responsible for the delivery of 250 units across 7 projects in 18 months, on time and under budget. In the evenings, an education of a different kind: £25,000 invested in courses, mentors and hard-won mistakes, learning everything architecture school never taught about money.
